Whenever I’ve been asked how long I’ve been using a wheelchair for, I used to give a rough estimate, never quite nailing the exact day, month or year. I look at old interviews and articles that I’ve done on the topic and my answer changes all the time.

The wheelchair started making an appearance in 2011, when the crutches just weren’t cutting it anymore, and I lived a hybrid life as a walker and a wheeler, but it wasn’t a full-time feature for another while yet.

It was a very hazy time, but now that I can look back at those years with a little clarity, I can now confirm the day, the month and the year that the wheelchair became a permanent feature.
