Take Action: No Weapons to Israel Through Ireland
Email templates to copy and paste to all sitting senators
Our news and social feeds today have been a carousel of horror from Rafah, and it all feels so beyond our individual control. Please don’t let this feeling of personal hopelessness stop you from taking action where you can.
We need to let our politicians know that Ireland has to do more to stop the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Taking the lead from Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, there are a number of things that you can do right now to add your individual voice to the thousands and thousands of voices who want a ceasefire now.
If you have never been to a protest before, now is the time to consider changing that. These events are peaceful and well organised. These protests are an assurance that there is good in the world, and while you think that your absence won’t be felt, your presence will encourage another person to join too, and that person’s presence will encourage another, and another, and another. It’s hard proof that your individual power means something.

From the IPSC website:
On Wednesday 29th May, the Civic Engagement Group in the Irish Seanad will introduce an important Bill that aims to ensure that no weapons destined for Apartheid Israel, whether from the US or elsewhere, will be able to travel through Irish airspace. It will also get rid of the regime of exemptions that allow US warplanes to travel through Irish airports and airspace without being checked for military or dual-use items.Join us between 12pm and 2pm on Wednesday outside to the Dáil to support this hugely important motion. Ireland has recognised Palestine – now it’s time to take meaningful action to ensure that we play no part in aiding Israel’s apartheid regime or the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Bring flags, friends, noise and solidarity!

Subject: Support the CEG Arms Embargo Bill
Dear Senator,
With a sense of the utmost urgency, I write to you to urge you to support the Air Navigation and Transport (Arms Embargo) Bill 2024, moved by the Civic Engagement Group and due to be discussed and voted on this Wednesday.
For more than seven months Palestinians in Gaza have been under the most intense and indiscriminate Israeli assault ever. The ICJ has ruled that Israel is plausibly committing genocide, and ordered a raft of provisional measures that Israel has simply ignored. The ICC Chief Prosecutor has sought arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defence Minister Gallant for the international crimes of Extermination, Starvation and Persecution.
The horrors that are being perpetrated against the Palestinians in Gaza are unconscionable and cannot be allowed to continue. The Israeli state is also perpetrating murder, mass imprisonment and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in the West Bank.
The ICJ has ordered states to take provisional measures to prevent acts being committed in contravention of Article II of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide against the people of Gaza. In April 2024, the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution calling for an arms embargo on Israel.
The United States and Germany received the vast majority of Irish exemptions for the carriage of munitions of war in 2023, the two main suppliers of weapons to Israel.
We need to ensure that Irish airspace or airports are not used to transport arms or weapons to Israel ever again. The time to act is now, history will not be kind to those who did not shout stop and do everything in their power to end these horrific crimes.
Recent polls have shown that some 80% of voters understand that Israel is committing genocide, 70% know it Israel is guilty of committing the Crime of Apartheid, and 70% want sanctions.
As a voter I would remind you that the next two years will see a number of elections in Ireland, and the stances political parties and individual politicians take in regard to Palestine will influence not only my first preferences, but how I vote all the way down the line.
These crimes in Gaza are occurring now because previous crimes have not been punished by the international community – indeed, Israel has been protected, facilitated, and even armed by third states.
Ireland has recognised Palestine – now it’s time to take meaningful action to ensure that we play no part in aiding Israel’s apartheid regime or the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
I urge you to support this important Bill – Ireland must act now!
Yours sincerely,
