A huge hangup that I have had as a writer is that I would only ever be asked to write about disability. For a while, this was the case, but my main focus is music, so for the last newsletter of every month, I’m going to review my favourite albums, gigs, books, movies—whatever—and share them with you.
Reviewing albums and gigs is by far my favourite part of being a music journalist, but unfortunately, it seems like reviewing is on the way out. Inches in newspapers give less space to culture and toxic fandoms more or less doxx or send death threats to any critic that doesn’t give their idol 10 stars, even if there was only five to give. Having been on the receiving end of such death threats, the shine of exploring new music and deciphering what an artist created—or intended to create—has faded slightly.
