There are many scenes in 2024’s Babygirl that are now iconic, but the one that I really appreciated was the scene that showed Nicole Kidman’s Romy getting her Botox injections. These injections then bruise her face and her assistant helps her conceal them with makeup in a less obvious scene about crossing personal boundaries.

A movie about submerged female desire that is coaxed out of its shell, Romy is adored by her husband but becomes visibly emotional when her lover, the young intern played by Harris Dickinson, tells her that she’s beautiful. She doesn’t believe it. She works hard to be beautiful - and Kidman is famously gorgeous - but she still doesn’t believe that she has achieved that goal.
