Dublin location: With a green face font and awning on the street, the distinctive Claddagh Ring logo alerts us that this is in fact Handsome Burger. Painted on the windows are slogans like Ice Cold Beers! Hot Chicken Sandwiches! It's a busy summer's day, with people eating inside and outside.

Sometimes a hefty burger is the only cure, but when Burger King and McDonald’s are also big names on the BDS boycott list, where can you turn for a burger that can booth soothe and sate you?

The answer is the Irish-owned Handsome Burger. With locations in Galway, Athlone, Dublin Airport and Dublin 2, this hunk of meat is the sleekier, more attractive, younger brother to the well established Supermac’s. While each burger joint serves its purpose, there’s no direct competition, but it’s probably slightly more appropriate to be seen in a Handsome Burger at 6pm, whereas the prime time for Supermac’s is closing time.

I first visited the Galway branch during the summer, ahead of a BRAT-themed night I was playing in the Róisín Dubh, so was delighted to see when they opened up their new Dublin city centre location shortly after.

While the Galway restaurant has more of a sit in for the evening vibe, thanks to its cosy decor, the Dublin HB has more of a dine n’ dash vibe, but that doesn’t mean that either of them are lacking in quality.

Whether you’re in need of some comfort or just a mere indulgence, Handsome Burger is a decadent and local replacement for the big franchises.
